Jay-Z, LeBron James Pump Each Other Up Outside 'Two Kings' Party

Jay-Z was in Jay-Z mode. He couldn't be fazed, no matter how nonsensical the questions he and Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James were being asked as they stood on the green carpet outside their annual "Two Kings" dinner and afterparty on Saturday in Arizona. "Are you guys each others' special valentines today?" they were asked by a female reporter.

Right in step, Jay fired back quickly and humorously: "You wanna be my valentine? Easy! Easy now! Back up off me, baby!"

James threw in a line from "Jockin' Jay-Z": "Myyyyy girls is here!"

Hov laughed and replied with the line that precedes that one in the song: "Chill, baby girl!"

"Do you have anything special planned with your lady?" the reporter asked moments later.

Jay answered with a grin: "Yeah, we're going to tell you everything ... inside."

(Jay also answered a much more serious question on the carpet, regarding Rihanna and Chris Brown.)

Earlier in the day, both superstars, with special guest Beyoncé, donated $50,000 worth of instruments and a $10,000 check to the Mesa [Arizona] Arts Academy, in partnership with Sprite Green, which also sponsored the party.

Nighttime though, was all about the adults. Kobe Bryant, Michael Strahan, Chris Tucker, Spike Lee, Shaquille O'Neal and many others came out to mingle with the two kings.

"Well, the origin was just us wanting to have a dialogue," Jay explained of the gathering. "We wanted to have a dialogue with the people w e interact with: the corporations, whether it be Sprite, whether it be American Express, whether it be Proctor & Gamble. Whoever. We wanted to have a dialogue and let people understand who we were as individuals. A lot of times people look at you as a ball player or a rapper; they don't really know who you are as a human being. We didn't want to just take any money to endorse products; we wanted to have a partnership and a relationship that extended beyond that so we could do other things like today. We did a musical program in Mesa."

"It was unbelievable," James offered.

"Those types of things originated at this dinner," Jay concluded.

Hov was a mentor and friend to James even before the 24-year-old was drafted into the NBA. Over the years, LeBron said he's learned a lot from Jay, especially in business.

"Everything," James revealed when asked what he's learned from Jay. "[I've learned from] how he's stayed focused. ... Like he says, sometimes they look at us and classify us as what you do as just a rapper as a basketball player. But he's done other things and thought outside the box and been successful with it. I've definitely been able to pick up from that and look up to him."

Being so close to Jay, you would think that James has already had a sneak listen of Hov's top-secret next LP, The Blueprint 3.

"Uh, have I?" LeBron answered evasively.

"I like that. That's my boy," Jiggaman laughed, proud of James showing just how much he's learned (like when not to say anything). "Yeah, [he heard] some early stuff. Early."

Jay, who said he plans on going on tour in June or July, also said his "brother" gives him constructive criticism, as do a lot of people in his circle.

Bone Thugs To Record With K-Fed, Vanilla Ice

Bone Thugs N Harmony has recorded with everyone from Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. to Phil Collins. Now, the groundbreaking Cleveland collective are set to make their riskiest collaborations to date with Britney Spears ex and paparazzi favorite K-Fed, and maligned former rap superstar Vanilla Ice.

In a recent interview, Layzie Bone with K-Fed in tow, explained their plans for the new project.

"It's gonna be viewed and doubted by a lot of people," Layzie stated. "As Bone Thugs N Harmony with a brand new platform, we're coming to show everybody what type of real hitmakers we are. We're gonna make a multi-platinum album and party with the paparazzi. We coming to prove y'all wrong TMZ! Kevin Federline is gonna be platinum when Bone Thugs N Harmony is done with him."

Federline echoed Layzie's words, expressing his desire to make art that will be taken seriously by fans and the media.

"I appreciate these guys coming and looking at this project for what it is," K-Fed stated. "All I really want to do is make music."

Producer LT Hutton confirmed the theme for the first track will be the stalking tactics of the paparazzi.

"We got a song we're about to do called 'Paparazzi music," Hutton verified. "It's a soundtrack for when you're chasing people down."

The song is rumored to include a surprise appearance from Vanilla Ice, although the former multi-platinum rapper has not confirmed these reports.

Also, K-Fed's new album may receive production from Mo Thugs Records producer's Thin C and HC The Chemist.

Bone Thugs N Harmony is one of the most decorated groups in Hip-Hop history, having sold over 20 million records worldwide with three multi-platinum albums (Creepin on ah Come Up, E. 1999 Eternal, The Art of War), one platinum album (BTNHResurrection), and one gold (Strength & Loyalty) album.

At press time, a tentative release date has not been announced for the K-Fed/Bone project.

50 Cent Reveals Details On "Blood on the Sand" Game

Rapper 50 Cent is returning to the world of video games with the release of his second offering, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. The THQ game, which will be released for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, is the follow-up to the G-Unit leaders first game 50 Cent: Bulletproof.

According to 50, Blood on the Sand provided an opportunity to personally make an impact behind the scenes.

“I was really involved with the process of making this actual game. Early on, we went and sat down. They showed me stills of where they can actually make the environment look that way and I had my own ideas and input,” 50 Cent revealed. “The way it actually operates, the things are actually happening, is it feels like a virtual action film where you get a chance to be in the film yourself playing as 50 Cent, or as Tony Yayo, or as Lloyd Banks or DJ Whoo Kid."

With Blood on the Sand, gamers will not only get a chance to play 50 and G-Unit, but can also choose a soundtrack comprised of the rapper's music, from the last five years as well as new tunes specifically made for the new game.

“You got hit music from the Curtis album, which was my last album. And that’s with me and Justin Timberlake, me and Robin Thicke, me and Mary J. Blige, me and Akon, me and Dr. Dre, me and Eminem,” 50 Cent said about the presence of well-known material. “Hit music from the last five years is optional for them to play. These tracks are like the greatest hits.”

The release of Blood on the Sand comes as 50 shows no signs of abandoning his war of words with Miami-based rap star Rick Ross.

Over the last few weeks, the rivals have voiced their apparent dislike of each other through a series of diss songs, insulting videos and cartoon shorts.

50’s Cent’s latest cartoon, titled "Everybody Hates Chris," follows the rapper’s previous animated spoofs in poking fun at Ross’ former employment as a corrections officer.

In addition to Ross, the cartoon takes shots at R&B singers Chris Brown and Rihanna while featuring DJ Khaled and Foxy Brown.

Photos of Khaled in makeup and a female wig have been seen in videos posted by 50, who recently filmed one of the clips at the home of the DJ’s mother.

After making a reference to Brown on the song "Try Me," Brown vowed to handle 50 “Brooklyn style” if he didn’t retract the reference within 24 hours.

To date, no response from Brown has come to light.

50 Cent’s Blood on the Sand is due in stores on Feb. 24.

Suge Knight Face Fractured In AZ Assault

Hip-Hop mogul Suge Knight was treated at a local Scottsdale, Arizona hospital, allegedly for broken bones in his face, after he was assaulted by a man associated with R&B singer Akon. Police were called to a private party hosted by Akon on the second floor pool area of the W Hotel around 3:30AM this morning.

Hotel security expressed concern to local police that an altercation was brewing between two parties in the VIP area.

As officers arrived, they witnessed one person identified as Robert Carnes Jr. punch Knight in the head two times.

Knight has had a number of altercations and run-ins with the law over the past year.

In May of 2008, Knight was knocked unconsciouss during an argument outside of a Hollywood Club, but failed to press charges against his assailaint, a local barber.

In August of 2008, Knight was arrested and charged with two counts of felony drug possession and one count of misdemeanor battery, after police claimed they had witnessed him strike a woman while holding a knife in the parking lot of the Las Vegas strip.

Jay-Z and LeBron James Make Musical Donation to Mesa Arts Academy

This year's NBA All-Star weekend will generate a deeper sense of fulfillment for Jay-Z. The rap mogul, along with Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, will be on hand to donate 150 musical instruments to students at the Mesa Arts Academy.

The duo, who have partnered with the event sponsor Sprite Green, will also sign a donated piano that will be located in the school's auditorium.

More than 200 students are expected to meet, interact with and perform for Jay-Z and James during the event.

In addition to the Academy, the instruments will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley.

For Ramon Elias, the donations will provide proper motivation for youth to fully explore their musical potential.

"Our kids love to perform, and we know the instruments and musical equipment . . . will be a great way to motivate the kids to go to class and come to the Club after school," the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley president told The Arizona Republic.

Located in Mesa, Arizona, the Mesa Arts Academy is a free charter school that blends arts and music from kindergarten through eighth grade.

The visit to the school is one of a string of events James and Jay-Z will attend during All-Star weekend.

The pair will travel to Phoenix to host their third annual Two Kings Dinner event on Saturday (February 14).

Although it wasn't mentioned how James and Jay-Z became aware of the Academy, a spokesperson for the stars cited the duo's desire to do something besides the dinner as their motivation to make a charitable donation to a deserving organization involving music.

James is among various NBA greats who will play in the All-Star game, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday (February 15) at the Airways Center in Phoenix.

Tip-off for the event, which will feature a halftime performance by R&B crooner John Legend, will be at 8 p.m.

Mike Jones Prepping New Album "The Voice"

Nearly 4 years after his surprise hit album Who Is Mike Jones, Houston rapper Mike Jones will release his much-delayed follow-up The Voice. Aware of the difficult sales climate in today's album market, Jones was careful in making sure his singles generated enough buzz for the project.

After receiving a good reception from the tracks "Cuddy Buddy," Drop & Gimme 50, and "Next To You," the Houston native is confident in the LP's momentum.

Jones is also hopeful this album will dispel any lingering thoughts with critics and fans that attribute his first album's success to Houston's 2005 mainstream popularity.

"This album is what I wanted my first album to be," Jones explained. "I'm showing more of myself to the world, more of my writing skills and my personality."

The Voice features a balanced combination of street and dance Hip-Hop courtesy of production from Mr. Collipark, Jim Jonsin, J.R. Rotem, and Drumma Boy.

On the artist side, Jones has enlisted appearances Lil Wayne, T.I., Twista, Trey Songz, Hurricane Chris, Plies, and Akon.

Even with the loaded guest spots, Jones is cognizant of making sure his presence is not lost on the album.

"There are many side to Mike Jones," he stated. "I want my fans to get to know all of them."

Big Pun Remembered, New Documentary on the Way

Yesterday (February 7) marks the 9 year anniversary of the sudden and premature passing of Christopher Rios, better known to the world as Big Pun. After enduring a rough childhood growing up in the Bronx, Pun sought refuge in rhyming to deal with his mother's drug addiction and an abusive step father.

By the late 80s, he had met lifelong friends Cuban Link, Triple Seis, and Prospect. Together, they formed a music click coined the Full a Clips Crew.

During this time, Pun would be known to fellow local emcees by his first stage name, Big Moon Dawg. Years of work paid off in 1995 when Pun met fellow Bronx rapper Fat Joe.

Impressed to find such a raw talent in his own borough, Joe featured Pun extensively on what many consider his best LP, Jealous One's Envy.

After building a strong buzz with underground hits such as "You Ain't a Killer," Pun dropped his seminal 1998 debut Capital Punishment.

Celebrated for its varied displays of lyricism, flows ("The Dream Shatterer," "Beware") and powered by the hit single "Still Not a Player," the album became the first platinum album ever from a Latino emcee.

Also, the LP scored a Grammy nomination for 1998's Hip-Hop Album of the Year.

Pun's stardom was short-lived, as the Bronx native could not gain control over his weight issues, even after ballooning to over 500 pounds and several attempted interventions from family and friends.

On February 7, 2000, Pun succumbed to a fatal heart attack at the age of 28.

Since his death, two posthumous albums (Yeeeah Baby, Endangered Species) and a controversial documentary (Still Not a Player) from his widow Liza Rios have been released.

Sometime this year, Pun's life will receive further examination with a new documentary entitled Big Pun: The Legacy.

The tribute project was originally announced last summer, but was delayed over post-production and distribution issues.

The film is reported to contain never before seen interviews and performances from Pun.

Additionally, the documentary features reflections from industry colleagues who Pun inspired personally or through his music, such as the Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, Rosie Perez, Mobb Deep, and Cypress Hill.

At press time, a release date has not been set for the film. This year, Big Pun would have celebrated his 38th birthday.

$50 Million Dollar Lawsuit Against 50 Cent Tossed

Mogul 50 Cent has won the latest battle in his ongoing legal war with ex-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins. The New York Supreme Court has dismissed Tompkins' breach of contract allegation against her former beau.

Last year, Tompkins filed the $50 million dollar lawsuit against 50, real name Curtis Jackson.

In the case, Tompkins claimed that while she and 50 were together, the rapper made an agreement to split half of his future earnings with her.

Under the alleged rules of the agreement, Tompkins would remain at home and take care of their son.

This arrangement would give 50 time to fulfill commitments required for his music career, such as studio time, interviews, label meetings, and shows.

According to Tompkins, 50 reneged on this arrangement after becoming a superstar following the release of his multi-platinum debut, Get Rich Or Die Tryin'.

50's lawyer, Brett Kimmel released a statement yesterday (February 5) applauding the court decision.

"I just received word that 50's motion for summary judgment has been granted," Kimmel said. “Shaniqua Tompkin's $50,000,000 lawsuit has been dismissed, in its entirety, with prejudice. Once again, justice prevails."

The former couple has been at odds since early last year when 50 won a court order to have Tompkins and his son removed from his Long Island mansion.

When the property mysteriously burned down in a raging fire, both parties accused the other of arson.

To date, both have multi-million dollar lawsuits against each other over the accusation.

At press time, 50 Cent is continuing his media campaign against Miami rival Rick Ross, in preparation for the release of his long-awaited album Before I Self-Destruct.

Sculptor Sues Diddy Over Unforgivable Bottle Design

A Massachusetts-based sculptor is suing Sean “Diddy” Combs over the design for the bottle of his popular Unforgivable fragrance. In a lawsuit filed last week in Springfield federal court, Tom Patti claims that Combs stole the copyrighted designs of his one of his creations, Compacted Gray With Clear and Ribs and Modulated Solar Airframe, in order to create the bottle for Unforgivable.

He is suing the entertainment mogul for copyright infringement, trade dress infringement, and unfair competition, which stems from “defendants" improper taking of Tom Patti's designs and the associated goodwill through Defendants' unauthorized use of the product configuration and packaging for its Unforgivable cologne product.”

The suit, which also named Sean John Clothing, Inc. and Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. as defendants, further noted that Unforgivable debuted around the same time that Patti’s designs were exhibited at the Heller Gallery in New York in 2006.

According to the artist’s lawyer Steven Roth, the similarities between the bottle and his clients designs are to obvious to be ignored.

“Tom Patti is a world famous glass artist whose work is displayed in the Louvre, the Met and MOMA. Ever since Unforgivable came out in an imitation cradle, similar to Tom Patti’s work, people have been questioning the similarity of the two works,” Roth told E! News, adding that the comments prompted his client to “take action against Sean."

“Significantly, in the author's view, ‘Sleepimilarities between Patti's sculptures and the 'Unforgivable' design include the choice of color, the architectural elements, the proportions, the exposed ridges, the layers, and the curved top.’”

As a result, the suit alleges the confusion has damaged Patti’s “goodwill and hard-earned reputation” as well as caused a loss of “sales, and/or other opportunities for monetary relief.”

Since its debut, Unforgivable has emerged as a leading fragrance among consumers.

The success of the scent resulted in the release of Combs’ latest fragrance I Am King.

Both brands captured the attention of the public with promotional campaigns in various print, television, radio and online outlets.

According to Roth, Unforgivable’s sales were enhanced by the bottle’s attractive shape.

The attractiveness of the scent can be directly linked to Patti’s designs, he added.

A representative for Patti revealed that that the artist would have to prove the Unforgivable cradle designer had knowledge of Patti’s work or access to the work.

Patti is seeking unspecified amount of money from the suit as well as a court order to halt the use of design due to the copyright infringement.

50 Cent and Rick Ross Beef It Up On New York Radio

50 Cent and Rick Ross continued their war of words on Monday night, as the rappers took to the airwaves of New York radio station Hot 97 to toss increasingly ugly barbs at each other.
The G-Unit star appeared on Funkmaster Flex's show and boasted that Ross won't be able to recover "from what I've already done."

Over the weekend, 50 launched a full-on assault on the Miami star through his Web site, ThisIs50.com. Fif mocked Ross' alleged previous employment as a correction officer calling the rapper "Officer Ricky," and flew the mother of one of Ross' children to New York. In a video clip on the site, 50 is seen interviewing the mother, Tia Kemp, and later taking her shopping for a fur coat and Gucci shoes.

The rapper appeared to be energized by the conflict with Ross, especially since his attempts to bait Lil Wayne have been met with little response. After hearing "Officer Ricky," Ross warned 50 that he had 48 hours to come up with a new dis response. 50 then prepped multiple video clips that aired on his site before he headed off to South America for a G-Unit show. Meanwhile, Rick Ross relaxed in Tampa at a House of Hennessy Event during Super Bowl weekend.

Flex admonished Fif for stepping over the line when he insulted Ross' mother, but the rapper responded that Ross crossed the threshold first with comments about his child's mother. Throughout their brief conflict, the rappers' mothers, children and former girlfriends have all been in the line of verbal fire.

"How do you set those parameters?" 50 asked Flex. He went on to issue a vague threat in the guise of information he may have about Ross and female rapper Jackie-O, but promised to save that allegation for later. 50 claimed that Ross' label home, Def Jam, is already asking the Miami rapper to cease his beef with 50, as he'd predicted earlier.

50, for his part, when asked what was next, predicted "total havoc."

During the Celebrity Drama updates on Flex's show Monday night, gossip maven >Miss Info reported that she talked to Ross over the weekend and he apparently was well aware Kemp was travelling to New York to see 50 Cent.

"Would I stand between her making money with him?" Ross asked. "No." Miss Info also reported that Kemp will be publishing a book, with assistance from 50, called "Tia's Diary: Deeper than Rap," which is scheduled to be released the same day as Ross' upcoming album, also titled Deeper Than Rap.

"There have been plenty of lines being stretched and crossed in hip-hop beef history," Miss Info told MTV News on Tuesday about the 50/Ross feud, which follows on the heels of an ugly battle been Joe Budden and Saigon. "Women long ago stopped being sacred, kids are the lowest blow, and the point of no return."

Throughout Ross' conversion with Miss Info, the rapper sounded more expressive than he is during most discussions. He called 50 "a parody of hip-hop" and said the Queens artist doesn't count in the South, where he said they call him "Curly," in reference to his antics.

" 'Mafia Music' ended his career," Ross finished, adding that the G-Unit rapper hasn't appeared on the Billboard charts "in so long."

DMX Sentenced To 90 Days In Prison

DMX appeared in a Phoenix court room today (January 30), where he was sentenced to 90 days in prison. The 38-year-old rapper, who is currently in the Maricopa, Arizona jail, appeared before a Maricopa, County judge in black and white pin stripes, looking noticeably heavier.

The judge sentenced DMX to three months in prison, after Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies raided his Cave Creek, Arizona home last year on suspicion of animal abuse.

Investigators found several malnourished dogs, as well as the charred remains of three others.

Also recovered were guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

He was also accused of felony theft, after he gave a fake name and social security numbers to workers treating him at a Scottsdale clinic last April.

As expected, several charges against the rapper were dropped in exchange for his plea of guilty.

The rapper must also serve 18 months supervised probation. The sentencing marks the end of almost a full year of warrants, raids and multiple arrests.

He was eventually apprehended December 9 in the Miami mansion of producer Scott Storch.

Since his incarceration, DMX has been reading the bible each day and is planning a religious themed television show to teach children a positive message.

Ludacris Launches 'Teen Service Announcement', Encourages HIV Testing

With a new “Teen Service Announcement,” multi-platinum rapper Ludacris has become one of the first celebrities to show support for Best Buy’s new teen-led social change platform, @15. The new spot debuted online January 28 at www.at15.org.

The @15 platform was devised by Best Buy to give teens a voice while giving the company insight to the issues that matter to its future customers and employees.

As such, TSAs allow the organizations target audience to hear messages of hope and encouragement from both their peers and “former teens.”

“We all make mistakes, but you have to learn from your mistakes,” Ludacris shared in his video. “Try not to make the same mistakes twice in life. We’ve all been through some bad situations and you learn from them and you become a better person because of it. Adversity can make you a stronger person.”

Best Buy plans on using social networking sites like FaceBook and Twitter, as well as YouTube, to engage teens into social responsibility through the testimony of celebrities, musicians and their peers.

The company has also enlisted several other charitable and educational organizations to inform the future leaders of the world, while providing them with a variety of options on how to effect change in their communities.

One of Best Buy’s primary partners in the program is Youth Venture, a global non-profit which helps the youth design and launch their own social initiative by providing them with tools, guidance, training and funding.

In related news, Ludacris will join several celebrities, scholars and politicians, including Master P, actor Idris Elba, and talk show host Tavis Smiley as a spokesperson for this year’s National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

Recognized each year on February 7, NBHAAD is used as an opportunity to encourage African Americans across the country to get educated, tested, treated and involved with HIV/AIDS.

This year, the initiative will include press conferences, community forums, church services, and community rallies, as well as free HIV/AIDS testing, counseling and referrals in the neighborhoods where it is most needed.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Steven Davis, a lead sponsor and member of the NBHAAD Strategic Leadership Council, HIV and AIDS have affected African Americans more severely than any other racial or ethnic group in the United States.

While African Americans account for about 13% of the U.S. population, Blacks in America account for 49% of the people who get HIV and AIDs.

African Americans also demonstrate shorter survival times and high death rates than other ethnic groups.

The disease remains the leading cause of death for African Americans and other Blacks, according to the CDC.

Other celebs involved with the NBHAAD movement include former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy; actors Hill Harper, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Taraji P. Henson; Bishop Eddie Long; General Colin Powell; talk show host Tom Joyner; and U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
